What do you want?

You can have it all…… if Jesus is all you want.

We just finished our second time through the Turn Aside John 6 Bible Study and it has been a wonderful seven weeks! During my group’s wrap up session, we all spoke of the impact John 6 has had on our lives and how we go about our days.

See, John 6, is where Jesus fed the 5,000 and then walked away when they wanted to make Him king. He goes on to dialogue with this crowd, gently showing them that He came to offer MUCH more than full bellies and free meals.  He wants to give them Himself.

But what He was offering was not what many of these followers wanted.

Ouch.

For the 7 weeks of this study, I kept coming back to the fact that I am just like these followers-only my list of what I want Jesus to do for me is MUCH longer than keeping my belly full.  I had to stare at how strong my flesh still is and how desirous I am for the things of this world.

John 6 points to the harsh reality that we have as much of Jesus as we want.  We are satisfied with the once and awhile meals when He is offering us ALL of HIM all the time.

Conviction, while not always pleasant, has penned a new prayer that I find myself praying regularly-Lord help me to want You more than I want _________.  This simple prayer resets my mind and heart and reminds me that Jesus is ALWAYS better than what I think I want in the moment.  He is much more fulfilling, lasting and worthy of living for.

So, as we enter this Christmas season and the shopping season that comes with it, I invite you to join me in this prayer:

Jesus help me to want You more than I want _______________.

May it lift your eyes and help you to set your mind on eternal things.
